JJ Watt says there is one play Dallas Cowboys fans send to him hundreds of times a year

Back to Tony Romo’s days with the Dallas Cowboys… The quarterback joined the franchise in 2003 as an undrafted free agent.

During his 13-year career in the NFL, Romo became one of the most prolific quarterbacks in Cowboys history. He is known for his accurate throwing ability and also for getting rid of sacks.

Despite having made only six playoff appearances and never reaching the Super Bowl, the former player’s numbers are decent:

JJ Watt has already been a victim of Romo’s ability in the pocket

JJ Watt, now retired, is considered one of the best defenders in NFL history.

For CBS Sports, he was subjected to watching one of the most famous videos of his career – and one that “haunts” him. He played defensive end for the Houston Texans.

If you’ve been a Dallas fan for at least ten years, you’ll remember this fateful moment.

It was a play in which, right after the snap, Watt escaped Tyron Smith’s block in a matter of seconds and went towards Romo to sack him, but the QB dribbled past him and launched a missile into the endzone.

Week 5 of the 2014 season. Romo threw a 43-yard pass to Terrence Williams, who scored the winning touchdown in the Cowboys’ 20-17 victory.

“I get this clip sent to me 250 times a year from Cowboy fans. Any time the Texans do something Cowboy fans send me this clip.” admitted the former player.

JJ Watt was desperate to sack Romo

Evading Tyron Smith’s block isn’t for everyone, and even though Watt managed it, he didn’t bring the quarterback down: “I had the best get off I’ve literally ever had in my entire career.”

He added: “I was literally at this current moment trying to kill Tony Romo, that was my goal.”

“We talked about it multiple times, I don’t know how he knew I was coming, because if you watch the clip he never once looked, never once caught me out of his corner of his eye – just pure instinct.”
