Cowboys schedule: Thanksgiving sees a return of a division rival
Who is excited to see the Cowboys play the Giants on Thanksgiving?
This year’s NFL schedule has been released and fans across the country are booking flights and setting dates on their calendars to get ready for the season. For the Cowboys one date is set in stone, Thanksgiving. We now know it’s a division rival set to play in the annual game. The New York Giants will be squaring up at AT&T Stadium on turkey day this season, the second time in a three-year span.
Last year, the Cowboys faced another division rival on the holiday, the Washington Commanders. A game that had fans exploding out of their seats after witnessing DaRon Bland break the single-season pick-six record. The game ended in a huge win for Dallas, 45-10, with Dak Prescott throwing four touchdowns. This year the expectation will be a win as they face a Giants team that has certainly closed the gap in the NFC East, but by how much is still yet to be seen. The last time these two teams faced each other on Thanksgiving was in 2022, a game the Cowboys also won.
The 2022 divisional game remained close going into half time, but into the third quarter the Cowboys scored on three consecutive offensive drives, backing the Giants into a corner and forcing Daniel Jones to try and win the game. Brett Maher missed a 46-yard field goal on the negative side, but on the plus side fans got to see Ezekiel Elliott score a touchdown and jump in the Salvation Army red kettle. With Zeke back in the building, we could see a return of the famous red kettle jump by Zeke, and if Peyton Hendershot can find his way back onto the field, it could be a repeat of the 2022 game when he also got to jump in the kettle with a hilarious celebration.
The 2024 Thanksgiving game will kickoff on Thursday 28th November, at 4:30 pm on Fox. The Cowboys have won their last two Thanksgiving games, both against divisional rivals and are 2-3 in the last five years.
