Chiefs’ Harrison Butker gets 100% real after days of fiery backlash over controversial speech
Kansas City Chiefs kicker, Harrison Butker, faced major backlash over some comments he made during a speech. Many were upset with Butker’s comments about women. Butker’s teammates seemed to support him, for the most part. Even if they disagreed with his opinion. With that said, the veteran kicker finally opens up about what’s transpired over the last several days.
Overall, Harrison Butker claims he was shocked by “the level of hate,” he received from his speech, according to ESPN. But the Chiefs’ kicker does admit that even those who disagreed with him at first supported his right to have freedom of religion.
“It is now, over the past few days, my beliefs or what people think I believe have been the focus of countless discussions around the globe. At the outset, many people expressed a shocking level of hate. But as the days went on, even those who disagreed with my viewpoints shared their support for my freedom of religion.”
Harrison Butker’s comments will probably be a point of discussion for the coming weeks. Especially right now during the NFL offseason. Several of his teammates have acknowledged his speech. Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce both claimed to disagree with Butker’s comments but also believe it’s the Chiefs’ kicker’s right to have those opinions. Here’s what Travis Kelce had to say during a podcast episode of New Heights with his brother Jason.
“When it comes down to his views and what he said at [the] commencement speech, those are his. I can’t say I agree with the majority of it or just about any of it outside of just him loving his family and his kids. And I don’t think that I should judge him by his views, especially his religious views, of how to go about life, that’s just not who I am.”
Can the Chiefs three-peat for another Super Bowl?
The Chiefs are coming off another Super Bowl win after going back-to-back in consecutive years. They’re now aiming for a three-peat, which is something that no team in NFL history has ever achieved. So, Kansas City is on the verge of making sports history if they can win another ring next season.
If any team can do it, it’s Kansas City. The front office made some smart moves this offseason acquiring Marquise Brown in free agency. Additionally, the Chiefs picked up exciting rookie prospect Xavier Worthy who has the potential of becoming a true superstar in this offense. That’s what this team needs considering it’s not clear what Rashee Rice’s future holds.
At the end of the day the Chiefs will likely be in the running for a playoff spot and are favored to win the Super Bowl. That’s what happens when you have a superstar quarterback like Patrick Mahomes.
