Cowboys WR Jalen Tolbert Reveals Goal: ‘Prove it’ Year Incoming?
Dallas Cowboys receiver Jalen Tolbert enjoyed a second-year leap in Mike McCarthy’s offense, and now his sights are set even higher heading into year three.
Dallas Cowboys receiver Jalen Tolbert was one of the feel-good stories of training camp and the regular season last year.
After a poor rookie season that yielded just two catches for 12 yards, most fans were “out” on Tolbert as a player. But in his second offseason, Tolbert showed flashes of his talent and emerged as a good depth piece, overtaking Michael Gallup in the depth chart.
Tolbert’s rise was a sight to behold, with many counting him out after one season, and he came back with a vengeance, thanks in part to the tutelage of Brandin Cooks.
Now, as he enters year three with a spot open at WR3, Tolbert has his sights set firmly on claiming it as his own.
“That’s my goal, to go out and prove to myself; I am who I say I am,” Tolbert said. “Obviously, you hear that all the time. But just go out there and chase greatness. I have two guys who ride along with me in CeeDee and B. Cooks, and I’m looking forward to following in their footsteps and doing what I can to create value on this team.”
Part of Tolbert’s continued rise as a Cowboy is developing chemistry with Dak Prescott, something that has been easier this offseason with CeeDee Lamb’s absence.
And after last season’s work, in which Dak looked Tolbert’s way 36 times for 22 receptions, 226 yards, and two touchdowns, Jalen says that Prescott already has confidence in him.
“He knows I’ll be where I need to be at when I need to be there and do what I need to do when I get there,” Tolbert added.
In a year where Dak’s future is a subject of much debate, he will need to reproduce his Pro Bowl efforts from last season, and Tolbert as a genuine option in McCarthy’s “Texas Coast Offense” could help.
Confidence is a wonderful thing in professional sports, and it appears that Tolbert has finally found his in a year where he could be set to finally realize his potential as an NFL receiver.
