Chiefs Injuries: Joe Thuney, Charles Omenihu among those on PUP list
Kansas City Chiefs rookies and quarterbacks reported to the campus of Missouri Western State University on Tuesday, with their practices set to begin on Wednesday morning. The rest of the team will report on Friday.
Head coach Andy Reid took the podium for his first press conference of training camp, providing an initial injury list as things get underway.
“BJ Thompson will start on NFI (the non-football injury list),” started Reid. “He’s still going through some procedures. He’s doing great, but he’s going through some procedures as we talk here. He’ll keep going with that, and we’ll keep you updated as we go.”
Reid then revealed that defensive lineman Charles Omenihu (ACL), defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi (triceps), offensive lineman Joe Thuney (pectoral) and cornerback Jaylen Watson (labrum) are all likely to begin camp on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list.
“They’re all a little different, and something might happen [differently] by the time we get the vets in here and we have to do it,” said Reid. “I was just giving you a heads up on what we’re thinking there on that as we start. We’ll see whether they get cleared or not cleared.”
When it comes to Thuney, the team’s starting left guard, Reid sounded especially optimistic.
“Joe’s doing great, and he’s close-close,” noted the head coach. “I don’t think it will be, but we’ll see. We’ll just see how it goes.”
Two other veterans — linebacker Leo Chenal (back) and cornerback Nazeeh Johnson (ACL) — are expected to take part in the initial practices. Chenal and Johnson were both limited in some capacity during organized team activities (OTAs). Kansas City also plans to ease in rookie first-round wide receiver Xavier Worthy.
