Chiefs Injuries: Xavier Worthy misses second day of training camp
On Tuesday, the Kansas City Chiefs conducted their third 2024 training camp practice at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph.
Once again, the practice began with no sign of wide receiver Xavier Worthy or cornerback Kelvin Joseph. On Monday, the team announced that Worthy missed that day’s practice with an illness, while Joseph’s absence was excused for personal reasons. That has apparently carried into Tuesday.
Friend-of-the-site Matt Derrick of Chiefs Digest has reported that Worthy has strep throat. For now, the team would rather keep him isolated from the other players.
Cornerback Jaylen Watson (labrum), safety Justin Reid (quad), defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi (triceps) and defensive end BJ Thompson were present, but were without their helmets, working with trainers on the sideline. Left guard Joe Thuney (pectoral) and defensive end Charles Omenihu were absent. All of these players are on either the Active/PUP (physically-unable-to-perform) or Active/NFI (non-football injury) lists.
But unlike both Sunday and Monday, the Chiefs did not make a roster move before practice. The team now has 91 players under contract and 90 players on the active roster. (The team has an International Pathway Program roster exemption for offensive tackle Chukwuebuka Godrick). We now estimate that the Chiefs have $12.9 million in cap space.
