The Baltimore Ravens Rookie Could Start On Offense Ahead Of The 2024 Season
The Baltimore Ravens offensive line is starting to shape up throughout their first two weeks of training camp because we know the contenders for the three vacant positions. Right tackle is a position that will have a new starter after the Ravens traded Morgan Moses to the Jets. So far, their do-everything offensive lineman has received the majority of reps.
The Baltimore Ravens’ versatile offensive lineman has received the majority of reps at RT
Patrick Mekari has received the majority of first-team reps at right tackle. Mekari is a versatile offensive lineman who can play all five offensive line positions but has exclusively played at tackle in his last three seasons. He has served as their sixth man on the offensive line for most of his career.
Because of his versatility and the importance of being their sixth man, Mekari might not start in 2024. John Harbaugh addresses the challenges that he faces.
“It’s certainly part of the challenge,” Harbaugh said. “That’s part of it. [Mekari]’s greatest strength is his versatility. It’s also probably the greatest … [It’s a] thorn in his side a little bit. He doesn’t get the chance always to lock down at one position, but that’s a good problem to have, and we’re trying work through that too.”
Their rookie could start if Mekari isn’t considered a starter.
The Baltimore Ravens 2nd-round pick could end up starting at RT
The Ravens drafted Roger Rosengarten in the 2nd round, 62nd overall. Rosengarten played four seasons of college football for the Huskies. He started 28 games at RT in his last two seasons.
Rosengarten has started to get more comfortable during training camp. Since Thursday, he has received extended action with the first-team offense and has performed well. He has a good shot of winning the starting job.
John Harbaugh was impressed with their rookie.
“I thought Roger has been doing well,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Thursday. “I thought he deserved a shot with the ones, you saw him get a shot with the ones today. So, we’ll just keep working through that and let it play out.”
The Baltimore Ravens free-agent acquisition will also compete for the starting spot
The Ravens signed Josh Jones to a one-year, $1.79 million contract. Jones spent the first three seasons with the Cardinals and last season with the Texans. Jones has played 60 games with 24 starts (11 at LT, 1 at LG, 11 at RG, and 1 at RT).
He will compete for both the right guard and the right tackle job. He is losing both competitions and is slated for a backup role in 2024.
