Chiefs Travis Kelce reveals why he was threatened with taser at White House
The Kansas City Chiefs are getting used to the White House. Ever year, the U.S. President invites the Super Bowl winner from that year to the White House for a celebration. Kansas City has now attended two years in a row and famously wants to make it a three-peat. Star tight end Travis Kelce even has a recurring bit with President Biden and the Secret Service.
Kelce spoke on a recent episode of his New Heights podcast about his latest trip to Washington D.C. He shared an incident where he was threatened with tasers if he didn’t behave at the event.
“When I walked in we had about four or five Secret Service members come up to me and tell me you know if you go up to that podium we’re authorized to tase you,” Kelce said on his podcast. “Just when you think you’re being slick.”
Jason Kelce joked that the Secret Service would be completely within their rights to “tase the s—t out of you.”
“Oh wow so it wasn’t even like hey we might do this it was like you’re going to it’s going to happen,” Jason added.
“It’s going to happen if you touch that f—–g podium sign. So that’s all that was going through my head,” Travis said. “I had no idea President Biden was going to ask me to come up and let me have my moment I had no idea. He walked right and the first thing he said, just give me the floor, and I felt tasers aimed at me when I was up there the whole time.”
Travis approaches the Presidential Podium for second year in a row
Travis Kelce was referring to the below clip.
“My fellow Americans, it’s nice to see you all yet again. Um, I’m not gonna lie, President Biden, they told me I’d get tased if came up here so I’m gonna go back to my spot, alright?” Kelce said before smiling and shaking Biden’s hand.
Kelce’s interaction sparked a host of intriguing social media reactions, highlighted by his brother Jason Kelce.
“Man, I’m not gonna lie, that was tight. Well done [Travis Kelce], doesn’t get much cooler than that!” Kelce posted on X.
President Biden is calling back to last year’s visit by the Chiefs. During that visit, Travis Kelce approached the Presidential Podium and said “My fellow Americans…” before QB Patrick Mahomes pulled him away.
Chiefs will need to complete three-peat to get back to White House next year — can they do it?
The Chiefs aren’t hiding their ambitions to become the first team in NFL history to win three Super Bowls in a row.
Kansas City has reloaded on offense and is poised to make another deep playoff run in 2024, perhaps with a fairytale ending.
Patrick Mahomes was feeling confident earlier this year. He made a confident statement at the Chiefs championship parade in February.
“We appreciate everything ya’ll do…we know we had to go on the road last year, but I promise you next year we’ll be at home. We’re going for that three-peat so don’t get it twisted. We’re doing it. Three times, the first time in NFL history. Love ya’ll,” Mahomes said, per Adam Schefter.
Mahomes and Kelce have been unstoppable over the past two seasons. If someone else on offense can step up, the Chiefs could become even more dangerous.
Every opponent who plays Kansas City will bring their best shot, so the Chiefs need to bring their A-game if they want to make NFL history.
