Female grave G-2701 containing a necklace and gold pendant incorporating cameo with a depiction of Medusa laying on the chest of the skeleton.

It’s Roman, 2nd-3rd century AD, found at Više grobalja archaeological site in Viminacium, ancient town in eastern Serbia.
The necklace consists of 138 jet (rare type of coal, considered to be a semi-precious stone) beads and one spherical bead made of blue glass.

On the necklace is attached a round medallion, consisting of cameo carved of blue-white opal gemstone depicting head of mythological creature Medusa, inserted into the gold socket.
