Phinsider Question Of The Day: Does Grier Deserve Some Credit Edition
Like some of you here, I have been a Miami Dolphins fan for a very long time. I have been around long enough that I can still remember when former owner and co-founder Joe Robbie was considered more of a bad guy/bad owner than the hero that some now hold him up as. There is always an “enemy of the fans from within” who has been a part of the franchise for as long as I can remember. Sometimes, the enemy is a player or the head coach, but I can’t remember the last time that a general manager was not at least partially disliked by at least half of the fan base. I suspect there is no successful GM in any sport who does not have his/her fair share of ugly decisions throughout their tenure. The name of the game is clearly to make far more solid/good/great decisions than the crap/ugly/horrible decisions.
That brings us to our very own current general manager, Chris Grier. For better or worse, Grier has survived up to this point by winning over owner Stephen Ross and making some solid decisions despite his disastrous decisions. Now that he has built an NFL track team as well as a team that has gone to the playoffs in back-to-back years, the often negative that you would see about Grier has died down quite a bit, but there is still a large number of fans that are more than happy to declare that he “still sucks” or whatever other non-positive term that they have come up with for him. I’m personally split. I am impressed with how he could completely restock the roster while also possibly upgrading some positions after multiple high-profile departures this past spring. I though also can’t help but wonder why some of these guys were not signed earlier. Why did you let Andrew Van Ginkle walk over 3 million dollars a year in the F? Are we just not ever going to subscribe to the concept that you build a solid, lasting franchise by drafting well and then keeping the players that you develop? I could go on and on, but it’s all way too sad.
So tonight’s question of the day is:
Do you think that Miami Dolphins Chris Grier deserves more credit and positive reviews and less disgust and hate now that the team appears to be in a good place, or do you still see him as either part of the problem or the biggest problem that the team still has?
