Hexagram made up of two equilateral triangles, used in history for the great populace of the ancient world but also as a symbol of the Jews and as an emblematic element in the decoration of synagogues.

The symbol would come from the way the ancient Jewish warriors would have built their shields, which would have had the two triangles (the only non-deformable geometric figure) on the inside, mounted so as to form six attachment points on the perimeter of the shield.

The six peaks would symbolize that God rules over the entire universe, in six directions: east, west, north, south, up and down.

In Kabbalah , the two triangles represent the dichotomy inherent in man: good versus evil, spiritual versus physical, etc. Therefore, the two triangles could represent the reciprocal relationship between the Jewish people and God. The triangle with the point up symbolizes the good deeds, which ascend to the sky, to activate a flow of goodness, which pours over the world, which would be represented by the triangle with the point down.

In Judaism Maghen David is a generally recognized symbol of Judaism and Jewish identity and is also colloquially known as the “Star of David”.

In Christianity the hexagram is found in some medieval churches as a decorative motif. A very early example can be found in Winchester Cathedral, England, in one of the choir stall canopies, dated about 1308. Not very obvious, it is used by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in temples and architecture .

In Islam the symbol is known as the Seal of Solomon, although it can also be represented by the pentagram.

Six-pointed stars have also been found in cosmological charts in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism.

In heraldry

In heraldry and vexillology the hexagram is a fairly common motif, although it is rarely called by that name. In Germanic regions it is known simply as “star”. In English and French heraldry the hexagram is known as the “six-pointed mullet”, where “mullet” is the French term for a spur which implicitly has five points.
In the occult

Like the pentagram, the hexagram was and is used in occult practices and ceremonial magic, and its points and center are assigned to the 7 “old” planets of astrology. The six-pointed star is also used as a talisman.
