Who is Nikola Jokic’s mom? What we know about Nuggets star’s parents, family
Nikola Jokic’s mom is Reda Jokic. She raised Nikola and his two brothers alongside her husband, Branislav Jokic. Jokic grew up in Sombor, Serbia. He developed a love for basketball at an early age, but no one could have predicted that he’d be one of the greatest basketball players ever.
The Denver Nuggets drafted him with the 41st overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. He made his first all-star appearance and All-NBA First-Team in 2019. It took a while for Jokic to become the best player in the NBA, but after winning MVP in 2021, Jokic won again in 2022 and 2024.
The pinnacle of Jokic’s career came in 2023 when Denver won the NBA Championship and Jokic won NBA Finals MVP. Jokic’s family was there every step of the way to support their son and brother, so let’s meet the support system behind Jokic’s success.
Who is Reda Jokic?
Nikola Jokic’s mother is Reda Jokic. Nikola hasn’t revealed much about his parents, but he has reminisced about living in a small two-bedroom apartment with his parents, two elder brothers, and his grandmother. It would be tight living quarters for most families, but it couldn’t have been great living conditions, considering the size of Nikola and his two brothers.
Jokic has a lot of pride about where he came from, often saying he longs to return there one day to be close to nature and live in peace. Many people talked about how Jokic was eager to return home after Denver won the NBA Championship last season.
Who is Branislav Jokic?
Branislav is another family member who doesn’t enter the spotlight. The one trait Nikola gets from his father is his love for horses. Branislav owns a small horse stable and a group of thoroughbreds competing in races.
His interest in horse racing carried over to Nikola. Nikola spends most of his offseasons with the horses at the track.
Nikola Jokic’s brothers
Strahinja and Nemanja Jokic are the older brothers of Nikola Jokic. They are no strangers to the public eye, as they’ve often gotten into verbal altercations, sometimes physical, with members of the other team or fans at Nikola’s games.
Their love for basketball carries between the brothers, as Nemanja played college basketball at Detroit Mercy. In Denver’s 2023 NBA Finals trip, Jokic spoke about his family’s support.
“My mom and dad was always supporting [me], my dad especially. He always thought that I could be something more,” he told reporters. “When I go to the other city, then my older brother took that role and he lived with me. Then we came to the United States, and then my brother, Nemanja, who lived here before … we get together, and it’s just a nice journey.”
The most viral moment for the brothers was after Nikola’s altercation with Marcus Morris Sr. Nikola shoved Marcus from behind, garnering a one-game suspension, and putting Marcus out of commission for four months with whiplash. Marcus’ brother tweeted about the incident, and the brothers replied with a threatening message.
The brothers replied with the now-deleted tweet, “You should leave this the way it is instead of publicly threatening our brother! Your brother made a dirty play first,” they wrote in a since-deleted tweet. “If you want to make a step further, be sure we will be waiting for you !!”
Nevertheless, this is a tight-knit family, and this is all we know about Nikola Jokic’s mom, dad, and brothers.
