According to DCEU storyboard artist Jay Oliva, an early version of The Flash was supposed to lay “the groundwork for Zoom as the big baddy of the DC Universe.” Miller was at one point planned to star in a trilogy of Flash movies, which would have ended with Flashpoint. Snyder wanted to use the major comic book event to end and reboot the DCEU, allowing new actors to come in as the most famous DC characters after ten years.
The Justice League 2: The Darkseid War trailer opens with a chilling sequence, showing a decimated Earth under siege. The skies are dark with Apokoliptian ships, and Parademons are swarming over cities in ruins. The world is plunged into chaos, and a haunting voiceover from Darkseid (Ray Porter) declares: “I have come to claim what is mine. This universe will kneel.” His presence is felt immediately, with destruction spreading across the planet.
The scene cuts to Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck), standing atop a ruined Wayne Manor, watching the apocalyptic events unfold. In a grim voice, he says, “We knew this day would come, but we weren’t ready.” The camera zooms out to show Batman in his new battle armor, preparing for the greatest fight of his life.
We then see the Justice League members scattered and struggling to regroup. Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) leads the charge on Themyscira, trying to protect her homeland from Darkseid’s forces. She is seen wielding the God Killer sword in intense combat with a powerful general of Darkseid. Aquaman (Jason Momoa), in Atlantis, unleashes a tidal wave against the invading forces, determined to defend his kingdom.
A major plot point emerges as we get a glimpse of Superman (Henry Cavill) standing in the Fortress of Solitude, conflicted after his resurrection. Lois Lane (Amy Adams) confronts him, urging him to fight, but Superman fears the consequences of losing again. His moral struggle is central to the trailer, teasing the darker themes of the movie.
The Flash (Ezra Miller) is seen running through the Speed Force, desperately trying to fix the fractures in the multiverse caused by Darkseid’s invasion. Cyborg (Ray Fisher) is heavily featured, utilizing his advanced tech to hack into Apokoliptian systems and defend Earth’s remaining forces. There is also a quick tease of the Green Lantern Corps, with John Stewart (Trevante Rhodes) arriving on Earth, bearing a grim message from the Guardians of the Universe: “Darkseid isn’t just here to conquer—he’s here to end all life.”
The intensity ramps up as the League unites for an epic showdown against Darkseid. Explosions and battles rage on different fronts—Wonder Woman leading her Amazons, Aquaman commanding his Atlantean armies, and Batman leading Earth’s resistance.
The final moments of the trailer show Darkseid stepping onto Earth, his Omega Beams ripping through buildings. Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman stand together, staring him down, ready for the fight of their lives. The trailer ends with the ominous line from Darkseid: “This is the end of everything.”
The screen fades to black, revealing the title Justice League 2: The Darkseid War, followed by the tagline: “The battle for existence begins in 2025.”
Snyder’s planned Justice League 2 and Justice League 3 would have led to Flashpoint. The director planned to conclude his major Darkseid epic with the universe getting to have several heroes as part of the Justice League, like in the animated Justice League Unlimited. Justice League 2 and the other Snyderverse movies would also be affected by Zoom behind the scenes, leading to the character being revealed as the Snyderverse’s ultimate villain. With a fan campaign for Snyder’s Justice League 2 to be made, perhaps Snyder’s DC plans can be realized some day, even if in another medium.
